To try something new this morning, I went to the MMA (Mixed Martial Artts) class along with Camilla, a former jiu-jitsu champ from Denmark. MMA is actually a bit misleading as it is only the grappling part that is taught. To become a complete cage-fighter (which is obviously what I'm aiming for) one just adds Muay Thai skills and enters the cage.
This was such a hard bit of training, because the rolling (sparring in MMA) part doesn't include punching and kicking (which we normally keep were light), one is able to put a lot more power into it.
I got a chance to roll with one of our instructor who's world champ. I'd like to think I challanged him a little but then again maybe not.
For the afternoon Muay Thai session I got moved up to intermediate, which I really appreciate. The pace is a little higher, there's more focus on technique and the sparring is a lot more challenging (still pretty light, which is more than fine with me). Appart from when doing anything with crazy Belgium guy, who never seems to take it easy and has the eyes of a psychopath, people are generally good at finding a reasonable level of power, when sparring and practicing technique.
I just love the training and get a nice runners high after each session, I could easily see myself doing this for a long time.
